Surrey v Essex Girls U11’s Venue Sutton CC 30th May 2010
On a windy but sunny afternoon the Surrey Brown caps took on the Girls from Essex in what was to prove an interesting match.
Surrey lost the toss and Essex decided to make the most of the sun and bat first. Essex started very quickly and made the most of some loose deliveries by taking some quick singles, at times pushing their luck to the extreme.
The girls from Surrey found some line and length bowling. This resulted in slowing the Essex run rate and eventually Charlotte took some great wickets. The brown caps, led by the joint captaincy of Imogen and Caitlin started to get on top of the batsman leading to more noise on and off the field! With some good solid fielding Surrey managed to contain Essex to 91 runs and give themselves a great chance of victory.
After a lovely lunch Surrey had to now concentrate on getting the job done. The two openers Imogen and Orla took their positions and Essex imposed their determination on the Brown caps by some very tight bowling which led to an early wicket. Kiana came to join Imogen and both started to take advantage of some inconsistent bowling. They were then both retired, allowing Caitlin and Mairi to take their positions at the wicket. Mairi hit a superb 30 unfortunately falling to a run out. Kira, Charlotte, Eugenie and Mahlai jointly helped to chase the target and win the match.
Our first match as a team and we won; a great victory for Surrey Girls U11’s.
