Latest U13 match report v Esher

Match report from Long Ditton U13’s vs Esher

On Sunday table topping Esher attended Ditton with 2 Surrey U13’s and 4 district players.  The boys knew it would be the seasons toughest match and they responded with a great display especially the batting.  Having last week bowled Chessington out for 48 Esher scented a quick victory and put Ditton into bat.  The only thing quick was the ball as it raced to the boundary.  Hugo Lockyer and Matthew Stevens both batted brilliantly and put on 72 before Hugo was out run out for 34 in the 14th over.  He hit 7 boundaries.  Matthew was next out caught on the boundary for 31.  Sam Creasey hit a 4 before being bowled.  William Bradley batted very well for his 31 not out showing the class that has seen him selected for the District U12 side.  Tommy Daniel supported him well and followed last week’s impressive knock with 12 before being run out.  Ditton finnished on 130 for 4 which was a great total considering the oppo.

Ditton needed some quick wickets but Esher got off to a flyer.  The skipper knowing that Louis Williams always gets a wicket with his first ball and the skipper brought him on early in the third over of the innings but even Louis could not get a wicket.  Ditton bowled bowled and fielded well but Esher are a class act and the difference in age for 7 of the Ditton team showed.  Matthew Stevens and Hugo Lockyer each got a wicket and there were two dropped catches but these would not have made much difference.  Esher reached the target with the loss of three wickets.  Jacob Byford kept very well conceeding only one bye.

A good Ditton performance and a similar one is needed on Sunday as they travel to local rivals Chessington.  A win would see Ditton climb above Chessington into mid table.
