Even though the Club Secretary grew up in the garden of England, he was very pleased to hear about another Surrey win! Match report below from Imogen – with none of the tabloid reporting used by a certain U15 member and qualified umpire!
The Surrey under 11 girls entered the garden of England to play Kent who are always a tough side to beat.
Kirsty won the toss and chose to field first as this had been very successful before. We are becoming a good team when chasing runs. Again we started well and bowled on line picking up some early wickets, Kirsty in particular bowled brilliantly and almost got a hat trick. Kent however went on to score a total of 115 runs.
After another lovely tea the Surrey girls knew they had some serious business to do, to try and chase down the total. Kirsty and Imogen again opened the batting. Unfortunately Kirsty’s wicket fell early on to a ball that just clipped the top of off stump and more trouble was to come as Mairi followed closely. Surrey needed to get on with scoring when disaster struck and after a mix up Kiana was run out. Charlotte came in next and played some good positive shots that soon released some pressure on the batting side. Charlotte and Imogen stayed together to provide a very useful partnership but this ended when Charlotte reached 25 as she was retired. Then Kira came in running a lot of singles, playing some goods shots. Imogen’s wicket then fell for a plum LBW decision. Louisa came in next and made a great partnership with Kira scoring about 20 altogether. 4 byes went but the umpire did not give it, Louisa was run out but sportingly the Kent coach called to the umpire to say it was 4 byes and allowed Louisa to come back. On the last over Surrey needed two runs to win. Kira drove a lovely 4 to win the match. A very exciting experience for all involved.
