LDCC undefeated again this weekend – 17 and 18 July

Having lost a few regulars to holidays, the 1st XI entertained Burpham and Worplesdon at home on Saturday, with a losing draw. The 2ns XI went away, to Worplesdon and Burpham, with just 10 men. At one point it looked like they would only go with 9, with people dropping out at the last minuted and general availability for this week causing problems. Mick Mumford however was quickly collared and what a move that turned out to be. Batting first, LDCC were in trouble at 55-5, but Mick hit a superb 72 not out. He was ably assisted by Under 15 Adam Barlow, who has really found form in recent weeks, hitting some glorious drives for for. Mark Lambert was then next in at number 9 and scored 22 in a 60 run partnership with Mick, with Ditton doing what Mr Oldham always says to do – bat out your overs. Jerry Morton was heard questioning whether Mark had eaten 3 Shredded Wheat that morning, as he drove the ball straight back past the bowler for four. Mick and Mark (sounds like some sort of dodgy pop group) got the score to 160 off 52 overs.

In reply, Adam Barlow quickly bowled the opener and even though runs were being scored quickly, wicketss kept on falling. LDCC kept battling away, with Joe Horgan on his return from university taking 4 wickets. Jerry Morton and Tom Ormerod also chipped in with the wickets, on a day when LDCC took two catches, with the rest being bowled. Worplesdon and Burpham finished 90 runs short, with LDCC taking a famous victory. Frank Boxall had to look twice at the score-card and was even  more upset when Mark Lambert won the scratchard.

Guildford City pulled out of the Sunday Thameside League at 10pm on Saturday night. Apologies to anyone who came down the club last night. LDCC will be pursuing this late drop out with the Thameside League and Guildford City.

The Sunday Second XI got a draw against a very strong Chiswick and Latymer side.
