On Friday, the Under 12s beat Old Rutlishians, whilst on Sunday the Under 11s beat Leatherhead away (match report below), whilst the Under 13s were beaten at home by Malden Wanderers. In yet another first for Long Ditton, the U15s will be playing their cup match against Ashtead on Wednesday at Tiffins School, as there is a Fullers League Twenty20 match at Stokes Field. Yet again, a huge thanks must go to Claire Neely for resolving this headache!
U11 Leatherhead v Long Ditton Colts Sunday May 29th 2011
In the shadow of Box Hill Long Ditton earned another thrilling victory with a composed batting display and tight bowling under pressure.
Imogen lost the toss and the team was put into bat. Jamie took to his new role as opener and hit 4 off the first ball. Oliver Leaning fell in the first over sending Imogen to the crease where she stayed for most of the match, scoring a steady 32 before being forced to retire in the 19th.
Jamie stayed with her until the 7th over when he was run out with a brilliant piece of fielding. One of the Leatherhead boys dropped Imogen, only to trap Jamie with a direct hit as he and Imogen tried to sneak a run. Freddie joined Imogen with Long Ditton on 30 for 2 off 7. Some good running between the wickets saw the score rise steadily. Freddie was dropped in the 16th, but Leatherhead finally got their catching hands going when they trapped Felix ( Imogen’s replacement) in the final over. Long Ditton were left to defend a healthy 107-3.
Imogen also rang the changes with her bowling order, putting Ollie Carter and Tommy Boxall on as openers. They bowled tidily along with Freddie, but the break through came in the 8th to Felix Williams : Leatherhead were 43 for 1. After their star batsman retired on 30 in the 9th, the match turned. Jamie took a wicket in the 10th in a maiden over and Oliver Leaning struck in the 11th. Tommy Lunt bowled tightly retricting runs well with good work behind the wicket from Leo and on the field from Rohan. Sammy took the ball in his first appearance for Long Ditton and claimed the 4th wicket in the 15th over. Long Ditton kept Leatherhead’s run rate very low in the closing stages of the match, realising how close it was. Clever use of bowlers and field placements by Imogen restricted Leatherhead to 10 runs in the last 2 overs, leaving them 13 short of their target.
Long Ditton won by 13 runs.
Umpire : Steve Williams. Scorer : Claire Neely.
