U9s narrowly lose to Worcester Park

The Under 9s had their first competitive game at Long Ditton on Friday, narrowly losing to Worcester Park. Captain Tommy Boxall lost the toss and Long Ditton were asked to bowl first. However, a wicket fell on the very first ball. Some good bowling and catching in the field limited Worcester Park to 266 (The game started on 200 runs, with 5 runs being deducted for a wicket). Confusion then reigned as Worcester Park then managed to have 13 players, which made pairs cricket interesting!

In reply, Long Ditton got off to a tentative start, not surprising with 13 players on the field! However, runs soon started to flow, but losing regular wickets kept Worcester Park in the game. With a Long Ditton wicket falling in the final over, Worcester Park managed to win by 7 runs, in a highly entertaining game of cricket.

Well done to everyone who played, some in their very first game of competitice cricket. Special thanks to Sam Finnie, who stepped in at the last minute to be the 12th player and for Brian for umpiring, coaching and getting everyone organised on the pitch. We go to Worcester Park next Friday, at 6.30pm, for the return match. Hope to see you all there!
