The Saturday First XI have the League title firmly in sight, after a dramatic win against Merstham on Saturday. With rain having shortened the game, Merstham gave the First XI a good run for their money, but in a fantastic game of cricket, the Firsts dug deep and managed to beat Merstham by 5 wickets. The Saturday Second XI had a losing draw against Weybridge Vandals in difficult circumstances. Full credit goes to everyone in the team who went out to field on parts of a pitch which were still saturated. Jerry Morton, Mikey Hinchliffe and Ollie Neely were the only bowlers used, who all bowled extremely well, with Mikey taking a superb catch at point. Weybridge were very worried when 85 for 9, when they ran out of overs.
On Sunday, Lawrence Hegarty scored his first 50 of the season, as the First XI comfortably beat Claygate in a friendly game at home. Highlight of the game was James Chapple stating to Nick Turnbull “well, I haven’t been hit for a six”, before promptly being despatched for a huge six the very next ball, off his rarely seen spin bowling. The Sunday Second XI, with a side mixed with youth and experience, lost away at Spencer, although captain Danny Cheema was of the view that it was a game the Sunday 2’s could have won.
