On Saturday, Middlesex Tamils were the visitors to Long Ditton, having replaced Surrey Lankians, who pulled out. Batting first, it looked like Middlesex Tamils were on for a huge score, but a good fight back from the Long Ditton bowlers ensured the final total was just under 200. After tea, Long Ditton got off to a good start, from openers Nick Turnbull and Ian Antonio, but just as Long Ditton tried to increase the tempo, Nick and Ian fell in quick succession. James Chapple then scored quicky, but again fell just before getting into the 30’s. There was then a bit of a middle order collapse, but Mikey Hinchliffe, Dave Oldham and Mark Lambert added a bit of respectability to the score, with Long Ditton finishing 50 runs short of the total, off their 40 overs.
On Sunday, the traditional end of season fixture against the Pretenders was played. Batting first, Long Ditton got off to a good start, but again failed to make the most of it and a middle order collapse for the second day running occurred. Ben Rhymes, having arrived late, scored some big blows, making 27, which helped Long Ditton score 121.
In reply, Long Ditton were soon amongst the wickets, but as ususal, there was one stubborn batsman, who anchored the innings, to ensure the Pretenders won by 3 wickets. For full score-cards, please click on the play-cricket link on the right.
