LDCC Golf Day Report

26 golfers descended upon Surbiton Golf Club on a bright sunny day in early September, whilst slightly down on playing numbers form the previous year, as several had flown to New Zealand for the Rugby World Cup and others unable to make it due to work commitments, inc defending champion Colin Owens, an SGC member. It was great to see Percy Stenning at 90 years young managing 8 holes, oh to still be playing at that age!! It was also nice to see some stalwarts from the 80’s and 90’s sides such as Ron and David Ebenezer, Tony Lightfoot, David Oldham (still playing) Les Bond, ex president Tony Heard, Colin Nichols, Gerard Savage plus chairman’s wife Carol Hardy in the field. 13 more joined us for dinner inc Colin Owens, Nick and Kate Hunt, Terry and Allison Withers, Jan Nichols, Caroline Oldham, Eileen Ebenezer, Karen Lightfoot, plus Mark Lambert and our treasurer Stuart Hinchliffe.
A great evening followed by a prizegiving, overall cricket club winner with 40 points off a 10 handicap, the day’s organiser Jonathan Harker, a Surbiton GC member, runner up was David Ebenezer, also a member with 38 pts, Frank Chapple won the guest prize with 38 pts and 4th went to Keith Marchant 37 pts and 5th to Phil Bradley 36 pts. Nearest the pin was won by Jonathan, longest drive by Steve Horne and nearest the pin in 2 shots Frank Chapple.
Next year has already been booked for Friday 7th Sept so please make a note in your diary. The day raised £80 for LDCC and this was presented to Stuart at the dinner.
Thanks to everybody for their support.
Jonathan Harker
