John Parkins has been playing in the Surrey Over 60s side (he is one of their colts!!) when the rain has occasionally allowed play. Below is a summary of a couple of matches:
Game 1 was played on 14th June at Beddington against Suffolk. Suffolk batted first and lost early wickets against the accurate Surrey openers. They eventually were all out for an under par 89. JP opened and Surrey lost their first wicket in the first over. They rallied back though to win by 8 wickets with overs to spare with JP unbeaten on 58.
Game 2 saw the old boys in deepest East Sussex at a beautiful ground at Mayfield. Surrey batted first and after a decent start, JP departed for 13 playing an awful cross batted shot (you would have thought 50 odd ? years would taught him something). A couple of decent partnerships saw them end on 190 which seemed about 30 short. Sussex got home with 3 overs to spare against a spirited Surrey attack which was missing two of the stars from the Suffolk match, winning by 7 wickets.
