Weekend results 6th & 7th July

Only one game was played on Saturday, as the Second XI’s opponents dropped out of the Fullers League. The First XI travelled to Frimley and despite Ian Antonio scoring 95 not out and Matt Baker taking 5 wickets, lost to Frimly by just 1 wicket.

On Sunday, normal service resumed, with two games being played. The first XI played the Quarter Final of the Fullers League Cup at home, and brushed aside Putney. Dave Downey scored a century, with Jason Matthews making 49. The semi-final will be held on 4th August, with the final being held at Long Ditton on Sunday, 8th September.

The Sunday Second XI travelled to the beautiful ground of Merstham and captain Ben Cheema won the toss on a baking hot day, much to the relief of the Long Ditton players, who had feared toiling in the field. Openers John Parkins and Paul Sweeney must have put on a record stand for Long Ditton Sunday 2,s with John retiring when he made his century and Paul Sweeney unbeaten on 70. A highlight was John and Paul running a four. In reply, the Merstham batsmen were up against it from the start, with some tight bowling from Adam Barlow (4 wickets), Ollie Neely and Tom Leaning.
