Under 14s and Under 12s win this week

Following a great win by the Under 14s against Cobham Avorians, the Under 12s carried on the winning ways. Below is the U12s match report.

U12s Long Ditton vs Richmond: 11.05.2014

Under swirling winds and leaden skies LDCC took the field ready to do battle with Richmond. First Blood to Long Ditton with some fine bowling from Ben who took three early wickets in his spell. Backed up by Sean bowling tightly at the other end, Richmond were soon in trouble at 14-4. Scoring runs was tough partly due to the soft wicket and slow outfield but also because of the good fielding. Very little got missed by the fielders and as Tom took a wicket in the tenth over and then Guy a further two in the eleventh, Long Ditton were starting to take charge. At one point Richmond were reeling at 25-7. Their middle order knuckled down well and combined with a few too many extras in the middle of the innings, they almost doubled their score before the next wicket fell to a stumping by Adwait off Louis’ bowling with the scoreboard reading 52. With a run out in the closing over Richmond nudged and pushed their way to 64-9, it looked like a score that wasn’t out of reach. The chase was on. 65 needed to win.

Louis kicked things off with a nice opening innings quickly scoring 9 runs. That was already a higher score than all but one Richmond batsmen. Like the Richmond innings, runs were difficult to come by and with Hari out for 3 and Adwait run out without troubling the scorers, LDCC were wobbling themselves at 20-3. Tommy came to the crease and settled things down with a nicely struck 13, the same score made by Tom who came in shortly after. This was sensible middle order batting by the boys and was the backbone of the innings. Together with a number of extras and quick 3 from Ben, the score moved onto 64-5. With three overs still to go and only 1 run needed, this was a winning position which was not to slip from Long Ditton’s grasp. The winning run was a mid-wicket flick by Aaron on the penultimate ball of the seventeenth over. Final score, 65-6.

A good team performance and the first match of the season won well and with good spirit. Ready to build on this at training on Friday night. Well done all.
