In the only seniors game of the whole Bank Holiday weekend, LDCC beat Horley by 45 runs in an absorbing game of cricket. Jason Matthews top scored for LDCC with 51, but contributions from Tommy Daniels (22), Mike Hall (45) Matt Baker (32) and Gareth Plunkett helped LDCC reach 210 all out with 1 ball left of their 45 overs. On a slow outfield, 210 seemed a decent score.
In reply, Horley gave their all and were still in with a chance with half of their innings gone. Tight fielding and some great catches held by Mike Hall and James Mumford meant the required run rate was going up all the time, with Horley being bowled out 45 runs short of the required total. James Chapple, Mike Hall and Matt Baker were the pick of the LDCC bowlers, with 3 wickets each.
The next round of the cup is next Sunday at home, against Effingham – 1pm start.
