A brilliant achievement which kept spectators engrossed to the very last ball, as Iain Carter commented” the final day of the open was not as intense as this”
A very ecstatic coach Chris Neely said ” It was a great night for colts cricket in a match that could have gone either way at one stage”. Long Ditton having won the toss elected to bat first, Freddie and Charlie got us off to a great start taking full advantage of some loose bowling. Followed by a very solid partnership in the middle order by captain Imy and the mercurial Ollie with very purposeful running. Stephen and Leo adding some fine shots to wrap up the innings to a total of 121.
Malden Wanderers faced a stiff test needing a run a ball to win the final. Losing early wickets to some accurate bowling from Felix and Ollie. LDCC where able to put the squeeze on Malden Wanderers making it hard for them to score freely, backed up with some tight fielding especially by the red capped Oscar . An inspired bowling change saw Ollie C at the hogs end applying more pressure picking up wickets with some great leg break deliveries.
Despite Malden Wanderers losing wickets frequently they remained in the match even to the last over where they needed approximately 16 runs with the last pair at the crease. However this proved too much and Freddie was able to hold it together bowling the final over for a Long Ditton victory.
20/20 doesn’t get much better than that!
