First home win of season

The 2016 cricket season at Long Ditton finally arrived slightly later than expected, on Sunday, 1 May. The season should have started in the last few weeks of April, but part of the ground was too wet to enable the final preparations to be made.

After weeks of cold and wet weather, a glorious sunny day arrived, with Long Ditton hosting Battesea Eagles. After winning the toss. Long Ditton got off to a great start, with new player Chad Quinney making 68 off just 67 balls, Ian Antonio scored 52 and another new player, Josh Roguski scored 76. Leo Rogers and Mike Hall both hit a quickfire 19 as the innings closed on a very respectable 253 for 5 off the allocated 40 overs.

In reply, Battersea Eagles never really got going and found the bowling of another new LDCC player, Daniel Peall extremely challenging. Peall was the pick of the bowlers, taking 5 wickets for 23 runs in just under the maximum of 8 overs per bowler. Battersea were all out with 100 runs on the board, leaving LDCC to enjoy an excellent opening win by 153 runs.
