Defeat snatched from the jaws of victory!

What a transformation from last week though. After winning the toss LDCC put Old Ruts in to bat. All the bowlers had tightened their lines and Sam and Alex responded with wickets. Great enthusiasm in the field led in particular by Dylan and Matts encouragement saw good ground fielding, throwing and backing up by everyone. Old Ruts only scored 33runs off the bat! Whilst greatly improved we still leaked 42 in wides and no balls. Old Ruts opener scored 11 in 20 overs. Benedict did a great job behind the stumps!

Connor and Giac made a solid reply for LDCC realising 19 for the first wicket! Unfortunately Ruts had some accurate pace and spin bowlers up their sleeve. A fantastic knock by Sam, ably supported by Rafe in a 5th wicket stand of 25 took us to within 22 of victory with 5 overs to go. Sam then suffered an unlucky shooter and we subsided to 64 all out in the last over. Ed, Matt, Dylan and Idris all got good crease time but couldn’t quite force a victory. Note that we scored 41 off the bat and Ruts supplied only 22 extras.

Lessons learned: Batting is not easy! Need to work on playing straight and selecting the right balls to hit. Keep working on the bowling accuracy!

Next match 22nd May 0945 Cup vs Leatherhead – Home Long Ditton. Selection will follow in the week and Training Friday.

All Parents – Don’t forget the boys must have sunhats and suncream if the weather is as today. This is a safety issue so I’d appreciate the boys avoiding sunburn or sunstroke; Drinks of course also mandatory!

Well done everyone!!
