Barnes A 154-5 20 overs
Rafe 3-0-21-2, Thomas 2-0-15-1, Edward 3-0-28-1, Alex 3-0-15-0
LDCC 34 all out 17.1 overs
Rafe 8, Extras 17(phew!)
Man of the match: Rafe D – Batting and bowling well in a tough match
Champagne moment: None – Thomas got the brown ale moment for wandering out of his crease and being stumped first ball(doh!)
The sun was out at last and the boys were raring to go after last week’s deluge. A great start from Idris, Alex, Rafe and Dylan kept Barnes to only 37 -2 from the first 8 overs. We were in the game! However the Division 1 team then unleashed their County and district players who hit 100 off the last 10 overs! Despite the onslaught the boys maintained their composure and stuck to their fielding admirably. Thomas again held a good catch and winged one in for Matthew to complete the run out – great work boys! Edward and Connor took the brunt of the onslaught but Edward managed to get his first LDCC wicket- nice one! Thomas chipped in with another tidy spell and a good wicket.
After the professional team photo it all went downhill unfortunately. Barnes A District/County attack quickly saw off our upper order and we were 11-4 before we knew it. Rafe led a brief counter attack to ensure we had some measure of respectability and Cameron and Matthew in particular got valuable batting practice as we battled to play the overs out against a variety of good spinners.
Lessons Learnt: This was a tough lesson against a strong Division 1 side with much more cricketing experience. Their bowling attack was sharp and accurate and the gave few wides until their last two part time bowlers were on. Their spinners showed how valuable it is to have a couple of options to slow the ball down and flight it
I was very pleased with the continuing sporting behaviour and encouragement of our team.
Next week we have a chance for revenge against Barnes B in the league. Let’s dust ourselves off and give it a good go!
