Superb wins for the Under 13s and 15s on Sunday, 26 June

The Under 13s recorded yet another win on Sunday, now really closing in on the League title, beating Chessington. At home, the Under 15s were up against Ashtead, always a strong side. Strong batting from both sides made the game extremely close, but Long Ditton managed to chase down the total with only a few balls to go, in one of the most dramatic games the Under 15s have been in. Long Ditton even finished in style, with a six! Claire Neely was seen taking a photo of the scoreboard – wonder if she’ll get if framed! Congratulations to all the Under 13s, 15s, coaches and helpers! Click on the Mid Surrey Colts link on the right for the full scorecards.

U11s league match report for Friday, 24 June

Don’t forget, anyone can write a match report. Just e-mail Mark at [email protected] and he will put it up here on the web site.

Below – match reportkindly written by Philippa Bradley:

Apologies for the dip in quality today but you have to put up with a sub-standard match report this week as Sarah was not around for the league match against Old Ruts tonight. I would like to say it was a beautiful summers evening but as the LDCC match scorer tonight, sitting on a wet chair, freezing cold – it was not the greatest conditions…still, enough about me – here’s the match report.
We lost ! LDCC batted first and put on a not too bad 101 for 5 wickets. Jamie scored 23 and Imogen 17. Leo (12) and Oliver L (11) both remained not out until the end. Old Ruts had what seemed like a steady stream of excellent batters. Imogen and Ben both took a wicket each but the BIG news of the day was that Louis Ackland took his first wicket for Long Ditton – well done Louis !! Old Ruts managed to beat our total in the 13th over so the good news was we could then get out of the rain. Thanks to Brian as ever and my assistant scorer, Frances.
Training as usual on Monday night weather permitting. Normal service will resume next week with Sarah back in the hot seat.
Cheers, Philippa

Friday 23rd June 2011 – Cup match Second Round vs Old Ruts at Home
Having returned from a three week break due to rain, Long Ditton fell to a hard fought cup defeat against Old Rutlishians.

The home team were sent out to field having lost the toss, and made a very good start. They reduced the visitors to 52 for 3 after 9 overs. The first three wickets fell to Felix, Ollie C and Freddie , with Jamie taking two catches, and Freddie the third. Old Ruts struggled to put on runs, and when Imogen took the 4th wicket in the 12th they had only moved onto 62. It looked as if Long Ditton would restrict them to a reachable target with some excellant fielding from Tommy , Daniel, Leo and TomW. Oliver Leaning and Ben took wickets in the 14th and 16th , but the visitors pushed on with a couple of high scoring overs reaching 103 for 6 at the end of the 19th. Jamie’s two wickets in consecutive balls in the final over, left Long Ditton chasing what seemed like an achievable 107 – 8.

Long Ditton’s run rate was far from fluid , as they struggled to keep the scoreboard ticking over, facing some very fast but often erratic bowling. Jamie scored 6 before being bowled in the 2nd over, making way for today’s captain Imogen. Despite her record in previous games, Imogen too struggled against tricky bowling, adding 5 in 7 overs. By the 10th over it was clear Long Ditton’s run rate was too low even though they benefitted from a lot of wild wide balls. Oliver Leaning added 8 runs in 2 overs and Freddie was caught for a duck. Wanting to be keen he sacrificed his wicket trying to put some quick runs on the board, and then opener Felix who stayed at the crease patiently for 15 overs, was run out for 12. Leo and Daniel had an effective 4 over partnership, before Leo was caught for 7. Tommy Boxall came into to face the last over with the game now out of reach. He was bowled for a duck, allowing Ollie Carter in to face the last ball. He was run out chasing a single. In what had promised to be a thriller, Long Ditton’s batsmen made 42, with 39 extras, finishing with 81-7.

The home team lost by 26 runs.
Umpire Brian Boxall. Scorer Frances Rogesrs.
