The First XI had their first stumble of the season on Saturday, with a losing draw against Ewhurst. The Second XI made the journey down to Ewhurst and lost, having posted 242 for 7 declared. Summer holidays weakened the bowling attach severely, which meant Ewhurst were never under too much pressure, although Tom Rogers and Ed Howard, off his right angled run up, did put the brakes on somewhat.

On Sunday, the First XI Development side lost against Merstham and the Second XI lost against Worcester Park.

Both Saturday League games were abandoned on Saturday, without a ball being bowled, whilst on the First XI completed their game on Sunday, away to Twickenham. Having lost the toss, Long Ditton were asked to field, just as another heavy downpour game along. After the second downpour, Twickenham’s groundsman did not want play to continue, but their skipper did, so Long Ditton struggled with wet conditions and a ball almost impossible to hold. This in part explainedd 30 wides and no balls being bowled, which proved decisive in the end, as Twickenham posted 231 in 35 overs. Mark Thompson again took 2 wickets, removing the opening Twickenham batsman on 99. In reply, Long Ditton fell  20 runs short, the highlight of the innings was Simon Sweeney scoring his second century of the week.

Under 12s win the League and wins for U9s and U15s

Wins were again coming thick and fast on Sunday, which was capped by the Under 12s winning the League, in their very first year as an Under 12 side in the League. Captain Charlie Hinchliffe and his fellow team mates were presented with the trophy and winners medals after the game.

After their superb win against Worcester Park, the Under 9s travelled to Bushy Park, to play against NPL. Tight bowling again, with some great catches being taken and sensible batting, saw Long Ditton U9s easily beat NPL, a complete reverse from last year!

At home, the Under 15s recorded their third win of the season, against Chessington. The Under 15s have played in a very tough league this year and it is a credit to the team, Chris, Nick, Claire and all the helpers the Under 15s have achieved so much.

U9s gain revenge over Worcester Park on Friday, 8 July

After tlast week’s narrow defeat at home against Worcester Park, the Under 9s travelled to Green Lane, looking for the win. Captain Alex Finnie lost the toss and this time were asked to bat first. Luke Shaw got the innings off to a great start with a 4, before the run rate became steady with numerous wides being bowled. Batting was extremely sensible, with only 6 wickets lost, allowing Long Ditton to finish on an imposing 293 off their 20 overs.

In reply, Worcester Park found runs hard to come by, even in wides, as the Long Ditton bowling was extremely tight, which was really where the game was one. Demon bowler Alex Finnie took a hat-trick, which was one of many highlights of the game and really took the game away from Worcester Park. Catching was excellent, with some great catches from Aaron Langford and David Bradford, which enabled Long Ditton to record an excellent win.
