Signed pictures of Martin Bicknell and the England 2010 One-Day International Team were a couple of the stand-out prizes in the raffle.  The club would like to thank the following for donating prizes:

Bachmanns Patisserie Thames Ditton, Waitrose Surbiton, Fordham Sports, Starbucks Surbiton

Squires Garden Centre Long Ditton, Laithwaites Surbiton, The Ibis Bookshop at Banstead,

Surbiton Angling Centre Hinchley Wood, Bird World Farnham, Radio Jackie, Surrey County Cricket Club

A fantastic amount was raised, all of which will go back to the club.

Long Ditton Undefeated this weekend

The Saturday First XI took the Fuller’s League Division 2 First XI title on Saturday, away at Wandgas. Some teams play next weekend, but Long Ditton has played all its Fuller’s League fixtures for the 2011 season. The First XI won in style, not being beaten at all this year, with some great bowling figures from Gareth Plunkett, James Chapple and Anand Desai, plus some excellent batting from Ian Antonio, James Chapple, Nick Turnbull and Dave Downey.

The Seconds also finished the League season with a win at home, also against Wandgas. It was fitting that almost in the dark, Phil Bradley and Paul Mock saw Long Ditton home.

On Sunday, the President’s XI took rather stiffly to the field and were beaten by the Long Ditton side, whilst on Bank Holiday Monday, Long Ditton beat Grand Union by 2 wickets in a very close match. After Long Ditton lost 4 quick wickets, Ollie Neely and Tom Rogers steadied Long Ditton and batted very sensibly, to put Long Ditton into the winning position. Seniors’ weekend round-up 20th & 21st August

The Saturday First XI have the League title firmly in sight, after a dramatic win against Merstham on Saturday. With rain having shortened the game, Merstham gave the First XI a good run for their money, but in a fantastic game of cricket, the Firsts dug deep and managed to beat Merstham by 5 wickets. The Saturday Second XI had a losing draw against Weybridge Vandals in difficult circumstances. Full credit goes to everyone in the team who went out to field on parts of a pitch which were still saturated. Jerry Morton, Mikey Hinchliffe and Ollie Neely were the only bowlers used, who all bowled extremely well, with Mikey taking a superb catch at point. Weybridge were very worried when 85 for 9, when they ran out of overs.

On Sunday, Lawrence Hegarty scored his first 50 of the season, as the First XI comfortably beat Claygate in a friendly game at home. Highlight of the game was James Chapple stating to Nick Turnbull “well, I haven’t been hit for a six”, before promptly being despatched for a huge six the very next ball, off his rarely seen spin bowling. The Sunday Second XI, with a side mixed with youth and experience, lost away at Spencer, although captain Danny Cheema was of the view that it was a game the Sunday 2’s could have won.

Many thanks to everyone who came down and supported the club last Saturday. Bungles Fingers played for a couple of hours and it was great to see so many people on a Saturday night. A huge thanks also goes to top club promoters Dave Oldham and Paul Mock, who paid for the band out of their own personal money. Don’t forget to thank them when you next see them!
