Phil Bradley and Sarah Parrish will be at the club from 6pm on Monday, 30th April, to collect completed registration forms and payment.  It is important these forms are given to the club, as they are needed for legal and insurance purposes. It also allows team managers to have up to date information for selecting players, as matches will now be coming thick and fast. The junior fee for this season is £85 – please make cheques payable to LDCC.

Sadly, although the club is sure this will not be a surprise to anyone, cricket has been abandoned this weekend due to the bad weather. Puddles were already forming on the outfield on Saturday. Fingers crossed summer will arrive soon!

After a glorious morning, the weather closed in, but a shortened game of only 25 overs a side was just managed. LDCC won the game with only the loss of opener Tom Bennett for 45, which included some great drives. Nick Turnbull hit the winning runs and also brought up his 50 at the same time.

Sadly, the team we were meant to be playing dropped out on Friday, leaving us no time to get another team. Brook have been replaced by a team from Wembley for tomorrow – let’s hope the rain showers go round the ground, as they often do!

Village Hall Trustees award LDCC £4000

The Donations Committee at Long Ditton’s Village Hall has awarded the club the unbelievable amount of £4000, to go towards the replacement of the nets, following an application by the LDCC Club Secretary. Part of the Trust Deed of the Village Hall is to support leisure and other activities of Long Ditton and the Village Hall Donations Committee thought that the nets replacement project fitted their requirements well. .

We have also been awarded £1000 from Elmbridge Borough Council, from their Olympic Legacy Fund. This is fantastic news for Long Ditton CC and will allow us to proceed with the replacements of the nets much more quickly than expected.

Weekend round up 14 &15 April

Both games played at home, the seniors team of mixed first and second XI players lost at home against Worcester Park. On Saturday, Long Ditton won the toss and elected to bat. Winter rustiness perhaps had not been completely eliminated, as Long Ditton lost their first wicket with the very first ball. Captain Ian Antonio steadied the nerves, making 68 off 111 balls, ably supported by Laurence Hegarty, who finished unbeaten on 32. LDCC closed after their allotted 40 overs on 133 for 6. Dave Oldham had predicted that 150 would be a good score on a slow outfield and the whole team agreed that there were not enough runs on the board.

After an excellent tea, Worcester Park had a solid start, putting on 27 before the loss of the first wicket. Rob Waite was caught low at square leg by Oli Fegan low down and the Ian Burrows was given out LBW. (LDCC felt a bit guilty, as he was instrumental in approving a grant from Elmbridge Borough Council!) Charlie King scored 52 n.o and Rob Waite hit 43 n.o. to record an easy win by 8 wickets.

On Sunday, Grand Union faced a strong Sunday side. LDCC again won the toss and after the loss of 3 quick wickets, then settled down and posted a challenging 233 off 40 overs. Mike Hall scored 68 off 63 balls, which included 4 huge sixes. Cars in the car park were being peppered, but fortunately their were no smashed windscreens, much to everyone’s relief. Tarn Huxford scored 53 not out and Aneesh Chityal hit an unbeaten 20 at the end.

In reply, Grand Union struggled with the bowling. Tom Rogers took 4 wickets, and would have had a 5-for, had it not been for a dropped catch. Newcomer to LDCC Dan Johnstone took 3 wickets and Tom Bennett carried last week’s bowling form on, taking 3 wickets in less than 2 overs. LDCC won the game by 209 runs at just before 6, which was perfect timing to watch the Chelsea v Tottenham FA Cup Semi-Final (Mocky wasn’t a happy man with the officials!)

Seniors start 2012 season with a 10 wicket win

Old Sinjuns were the visitors to LDCC on Saturday, kicking off the earliest ever start at Long Ditton. Old Sinjuns won the toss and elected to bat, a move they probably regretted. After winter net sessions and a good practice outside on Good Friday, all the bowlers were in good form and quickly reduced Sinjuns to 34 – 5.  To be fair to Sinjuns, a few of their batsmen were struggling with Surbiton station being closed due to engineering works, which certainly didn’t help their cause. LDCC captain Ian Antonio allowed a couple of the Sinjuns batsmen to go back in and this allowed Sinjuns to reach a total of 71 all out. Pick of the bowlers was former Clubman of the Year Tom Bennett, with 4 wickets for just 3 runs. James Chapple took 3 wickets for 17 runs, Ben Rhymes chipped in with 2 wickets and Oli Fegan also picked up a wicket.

After tea, Nick Turnbull (36 not out)  and Simon  (34 not out) steered Long Ditton home safely home in just 13 overs, getting the season off to a great start. Full score details are on the Play-Cricket site  – click on the link on the right of the screen.

Long Ditton Councillors help LDCC

Two local councillors, Councillor Shweta Kapadia and Councillor Barry Fairbank, have granted the club almosgt £500, as part of the Community Connect scheme run by Elmbridge Borough Council. The grant, which had to be spent on a specific piece of equipment, has been towards the purchase of a mobile net. This will help ease pressure on the existing nets.

Great amusement was had by a number of club members watching other members scratching their heads trying to set it up at the weekend. Flat-pack assembly certainly isn’t the strongpoint of a couple of club members! After many hours of discussion and pontification, the net was finally constructed and already has been in use. Needless to say, the club is very grateful to the councillors in approving this grant.
