Congratulations to Joe, who has been called up to train with the U9s Surrey District Squad, which everyone in the club is delighted about. Older brother Guy is now taking wickets and making runs in the U11s, so they are just two out of many of the talented junior cricketers the club has.

Both Saturday sides were involved in tight matches at the weekend. The 1st XI won by 18 runs against Shepperton, when it looked like Sheppeton would walk it. Matt Baker took 4 wickets to help LDCC to the win. The 2nd XI lost by 2 wickets against Caterham, with a fantastic performance in the field. On Sunday, there was only 1 game, with the 1st XI travelling to old friends Worcester Park. Matt Baker again was amongst the wickets, taking 5 wickets for 18 runs off 8 overs. In reply, LDCC found scoring easy, with Mike Hall making 78 off just 74 balls, to ease to a 7 wicket victory over a side LDCC had not beaten in over 10 years.

U12s match report – Sunday 19th May 2013

Home vs Chessington (League) Sunday 19th May 2013

Long Ditton U 12’s retained their 100% win record with another victory. These were more comfortable league points in the bag than those scrapped for at Worcester Park two weeks ago.

With all 12 squad members available, team coach Chris decided to select everyone, rotating the fielding. Long Ditton bowled and fielded well, restricting Chesington to 71 for 6 off their 20 overs. Maiden overs from captain Felix Williams and Leo Rogers kept the run rate down. Ollie L’s figures were also excellent – 4 runs off his 3 overs. Wickets fell to Felix Bound and Josh Pasley (Josh’s first for his new team, and there were two wickets for Imogen in the 19th over. Two run outs completed the wickets, with Frazer, Ollie C, Stephen and Tommy fielding solidly and Ben energetically keeping wicket.

Chasing 72 to win, Long Ditton started confidently, but quickly lost Felix in the 5th. Freddie was caught off the last ball in the 9th over with the score on 37. Imogen was joined by Ben at the crease needing 35 to win off 11 overs, a target they easily reached in the 15th over.

Long Ditton won by 8 wickets with 5.5 overs to spare. 2 out of 2 for the season so far.

The Saturday First XI beat Caterham, with captain Ian Antonio making 92 not out. This was the first time LDCC has beaten Caterham, as far as club members can recall. The Saturday 2nd XI’s game was abandoned at Whiteley Village due to rain.

The Sunday First XI convingly beat Chiswick and Latymer by 8 wickets, having bowled out the opposition for 60. The Sunday Second XI lost in a great game against the Old Grumblers (LDCC has several of these, but Frank, I’m not mentioning any names!)

U11s match report against Worcester Park

May 12, 2013 by

Friday night saw the U11’s win their first league match of the season when they thrashed Worcester Park by 9 wickets with Cameron Stevens leading the way with a brilliant 30 retired not out. Tommy Boxall led the side and Long Ditton fielded first. The Worcester Park openers batted very well and put on 50 very quickly. The bowling was good but the same could not be said about the fielding. Guy Parkin bowled well and got the crucial first wicket and Ninthujan Kumar bowled a fantastic couple of overs showing why Surrey rate him so highly. Suddenly Ditton were back in the game and the runs had totally slowed down. Worcester Park ended on 81 for 3 with all the Long Ditton bowlers bowling well with Tommy and Aaron Langford picking up the other two wickets.

Guy and Cameron gave Ditton a great start as they put on 25 runs before Guy was out. Tommy then joined Cameron and they played very well hitting boundaries to all parts of the ground. Louis Ackland joined Tommy after Cameron retired hitting the winning runs with 8 overs to spare. Tommy ended up on 17 not out another fine effort coming a week after his great innings last week helped the U12’s beat Worcester Park.

Veteran U11 coach Brian Boxall who had given his team the ‘hairdryer’ treatment at half time was overjoyed at the performance. He confirmed to parents after the match that in the week that Fergie had retired that he thankfully had no plans to. An excellent start to the season for the U11’s

LDCC Sat 1st XI through to 2nd round of league cup and other results

LDCC had a good weekend, finally being able to get a full set of games going, after the wet start to the season. The Saturday First XI convincingly beat Old Tenisonians at home on Saturday, whilst the Second Xi travelled to Windsor, playing in the shadown of the famous castle. The 2nd XI came up a very strong batting side, but in reply, the 2nd XI battled valiantly to earn a very creditable draw. Tommy Daniels and William Bradley batted extremely well, with captain Tom Rogers and Mark Lambert digging into make sure Long Ditton survived in a very long game (so long Mark even missed his evening meal from Margaret, although this was made up for on Sunday).

The Sunday First XI lost in a good game against away against Spencer First XI, with Michael Hall hitting a magnificent century and the Sunday Second XI convincingly beat Chudleigh Ale at home. Click on the Play cricket link and then the results tab to see the scorecards for all the games.
