Under 11s win against Worcester Park on Sunday, 23rd June

Long Ditton Under 11’s recorded another compressive victory against Worcester Park on Sunday. Following last weeks heartbreaking loss Ditton needed a good start. This they got with another brilliant opening partnership of 75 between Cameron Stevens and Louis Ackland. Louis raced to an excellent and highly entertaining 31 before he retired not out. Guy Parkin then joined Cameron and the runs continued. The only way our batsmen get out these days is by getting run out and so the pattern continued with Cameron the first run out for 25. Not to be out done Guy followed soon afterwards and Ben Mettrick was the last one out, yes you guessed it run out. Skipper Tommy Boxall did run well between the wickets and remained not out. Long Ditton reached a very good 118 for 3 from their 20 overs. A great display of batting as Worcester Park bowled and fielded well.

The big total was always going to be difficult for Worcester Park to match and this was made all the harder with Ditton getting two wickets in the first three balls of the innings. Ben bowled excellently as he always does but was superbly supported by a fantastic stumping by Joe Parkin and a great catch from Tommy. This set the tone and Ditton continues to bowl and field really well as they strolled to a comfortable victory. Guy then produced a brute of a delivery to bowl one of park’s danger men. Hari Kandiah then got two wickets and Louis another. James Geary finished things off and got the final wicket with his very first delivery. Park ended on 75 for 7 with Long Ditton winning by 43 runs and a wonderful all round performance. Next up is a crunch game against Malden Wanderers at home on Friday night, a must win game if Ditton are to keep marching up the table.

U11s match report against Richmond

Sunday saw Long Ditton U11’s lose in a highly exciting, nerve racking and controversial game when they failed to get the 4 runs required off the final ball of the match against Richmond. Richmond batted first and reached 95 for 4 off their 20 overs. Ben Mettrick and Luke Shaw opened the bowling with good line and length. Ben again impressed with figures of 0 for 14 in his 4 overs. Louis Ackland in his first game for a month showed everyone what the team have missed with a great spell of bowling and bowled two of the Richmond batsman. Tom Sutherland then produced a fine bit of fielding claiming a run out with a direct hit from mid off. The ‘spin twins’ Ninthujan Kumar and Hari Kandiah again bowled well and Hari got the other wicket. Skipper Tommy Boxall captained the side expertly and also produced a great spell of bowling with only 11 runs coming off his 4 overs.

Louis and Cameron Stevens then gave Long Ditton the perfect start putting on 70 runs for the first wicket before Louis was bowled for 17. Both batted very well hitting the bad balls for 4 and running well between the wickets. Cameron then retired not out on 33 when he passed his third score of 30 in four league matches. Richmond then bowled and fielded well and Ditton lost three quick wickets when the batsman selflessly and desperately tried to get the runs that were needed for victory. Needing 4 to win off the last ball proved too many for Ditton and they ended up losing a game they really deserved to win. That said the boys showed high levels of sportsmanship, played as a team and encouraged each other throughout.  Many thanks to JP for umpiring, Simon for scoring and all the supporters who braved a freezing cold June morning to support the boys.

The Saturday First XI beat Putney and the Saturday Second XI beat Chaldon MO, having bowled and fielded very tightly. For the Seconds, the pressure put on Chaldon who batted first, this was the difference between the two teams, as Chaldon were bowled out for 104. Paul Mock and Laurence Hegarty steaded Long Ditton, who wobbled a bit in reply, to build a strong innings, with Laurence hitting the winning runs.

On Sunday, the First XI lost to a strong Sunbury, whilst a strong Second XI bowled out Turnham Green and Polytechnic for just 42 off 27 overs. William Bradley quickly whittled of the runs in just 7 overs. For full scorecards click on the link on the left.

Info for Under 8s and 9s for 9th June

This Sunday, LDCC is lucky enough to have Surrey coaches visiting
LDCC for a couple of reasons. Adam Barlow, who has been taking the
9s recently with Rob, has been working with Surrey Cricket regarding
cricket coaching. On Sunday, Adam will be demonstrating coaching to
the person from Surrey Cricket. This is all part of Clubmark etc.

To assist in this, it would be great if those who were with Adam last
week could come down to the club to start 15 minutes earlier. The
Under 8s just need to come at 10.30am as normal.

On another note, as an experiment, we will be having a professional
coach from Surrey, working with us for the ones not with Adam. We
will do this for a second week as well hopefully, if all goes well.

Matches coming up: The Under 9s will be having matches against
Worcester Park, both home and away and a game away to Deando Ruxley.
The first game is a week on Friday, away at Worcester Park, starting
at 6pm.

Further details will be given on Sunday
