John Parkins, one of the stalwarts of Long Ditton, is now a regular of the Surrey Over 60s side (I know, who would have thought that JP was over 60!) Batting first, Surrey made 225, a score any Australian team would currently find challenging! John made 50 and then had to retire, which, he thought was “very unfair.” Victoria made a good chase though, but fell short of 32 runs in a good game of cricket.

Tommy Daniels hits maiden century and both Saturday teams win, losses on Sunday

Not for the first time this season, but the youngest by far, another player scored a century at home on Saturday. Batting first, the Second XI racked up a huge 292 off 45 overs, against Cobham Avorians 3rd XI. Highlight of the day was Tommy Daniels scoring 119, which included 21 fours. Was great to see players on both sides applaud Tommy’s hundred. Dave Oldham and Mark Lambert, who umpired a marathon 43 overs of Long Ditton’s innings, were very relieved they did not have to make a decision! The First XI kept up the winning ways, beating Putney by 33 runs in the limited over format of the Fuller’s League.

On Sunday, the First XI lost by 9 wickets to Thames Ditton, whilst the Second XI also lost to Wimbledon United. Click on the Play-Cricket link on the right to see the scorecards.

After two losses from both the Saturday First and Seconds, (although a very youthful Saturday second side lost by just 4 runs against Chobham), the Firsts on Sunday claimed a dramatic win by 4 runs to restore some LDCC pride. The Sunday Seconds did not have a game, as the opposition cancelled with just 15 minutes to the start time, owing to travel difficulties caused by the Ride London Bike ride.
