Rain rain go away!

The Saturday First XI had yet another day of cricket lost to bad weather at the weekend. Batting first on a green wicket at Newdigate, two quick wickets were lost with just 14 runs on the board, before the heavens opened yet again this summer, leading to the match being abandoned.

The Saturday Second XI had a weekend off, which was a good thing too, as there was no cricket at Stokes Field, as much of the ground resembled how it normally is in January, with standing water on various parts of the pitch.

Fingers crossed for this weekend.

LDCC Won by 7 wickets!

Umpire: Tim G

Scorer: Rob W/Mark H

Barnes 88-4 20 overs

Edward 3-0-10-1, Dylan 3-0-18-1, Cameron 2-1-2-0,

LDCC 89-3 17.3overs

Sam 30* Ret, Benedict 17*, Alex 14, Connor 10

MotM: Sam H. 30*Retd. Timely return of one of our top stroke players!! Led a positive response with a flurry of great strokes

Champagne Moment: Benedict R: Full blooded midwicket drive for 4 announcing his first big innings for LDCC!

LDCC U-11s roared back from their cup defeat with sweet revenge against the Barnes B team in their latest league encounter! After a sluggish start with too many wides again providing the opposition with easy runs we found our mark. Dylan made the breakthrough with a good straight one and Rafe hit with a direct throw for a great run out. Dexter started weaving his magic and Roman started to get a good line going. Cameron, Edward and Alex strangled the scoring rate with 8 overs for 27 with no wides supported by positive fielding and backing up. Edward got a great wicket while Cameron turned in an excellent tight spell. What could have been a target of over a 100 was just 89.

Connor and Sam opened up and put together a fine opening partnership of 37 in no time! Connor unluckily edged to the keeper which brought Benedict to the crease. Benedict played himself in slowly and built confidence. Then he unleashed several expansive shots to make his top LDCC score. Great job! Sam continued on his merry way hitting five 4’s on his way to retirement. Alex replaced Sam and ensured the rate didn’t drop with a short high tempo innings. Rafe was unluckily run out before Benedict and Dylan saw us home with 2 ½ overs to spare.

Another great team performance!

Lessons learnt: Catching still needs tightening up. Running singles still a bit of a problem. Positive backing up and calling needed. Bowling accuracy came back to haunt us but we pulled it back.

Next match is home to Leatherhead in the League Sunday 3rd July, team sheet to follow: We’ll need help setting up and volunteers for the colts café appreciated.

Comments Off on League games washed out

Both Saturday League teams were frustrated by the torrential downpours at the end of last week. The First XI game at home was called off due to part of the ground resembling a boating lake, while things were no better at Effingham, where the Seconds were due to play. Fingers crossed for better weather this week.

U11s crash out of cup

Umpire Mark H, Scorer Rob W/Tim G

Barnes A 154-5 20 overs

Rafe 3-0-21-2, Thomas 2-0-15-1, Edward 3-0-28-1, Alex 3-0-15-0

LDCC 34 all out 17.1 overs

Rafe 8, Extras 17(phew!)

Man of the match: Rafe D – Batting and bowling well in a tough match

Champagne moment: None – Thomas got the brown ale moment for wandering out of his crease and being stumped first ball(doh!)

The sun was out at last and the boys were raring to go after last week’s deluge.  A great start from Idris, Alex, Rafe and Dylan kept Barnes to only 37 -2 from the first 8 overs. We were in the game! However the Division 1 team then unleashed their County and district players who hit 100 off the last 10 overs! Despite the onslaught the boys maintained their composure and stuck to their fielding admirably. Thomas again held a good catch and winged one in for Matthew to complete the run out – great work boys! Edward and Connor took the brunt of the onslaught but Edward managed to get his first LDCC wicket- nice one! Thomas chipped in with another tidy spell and a good wicket.

After the professional team photo it all went downhill unfortunately. Barnes A District/County attack quickly saw off our upper order and we were 11-4 before we knew it. Rafe led a brief counter attack to ensure we had some measure of respectability and Cameron and Matthew in particular got valuable batting practice as we battled to play the overs out against a variety of good spinners.

Lessons Learnt: This was a tough lesson against a strong Division 1 side with much more cricketing experience. Their bowling attack was sharp and accurate and the gave few wides until their last two part time bowlers were on. Their spinners showed how valuable it is to have a couple of options to slow the ball down and flight it

I was very pleased with the continuing sporting behaviour and encouragement of our team.

Next week we have a chance for revenge against Barnes B in the league. Let’s dust ourselves off and give it a good go!

Umpire: Mark Hays,  Scorer Greg Blows – Special Thanks in progressively awful conditions!

Sheen Park U-11 74-1 15 overs

Idris, Sam, Roman, Tom , Alex, Connor – Well done for bowling with wet ball in wet conditions

Champagne moment: Rafe and Edward accurate throw and run out

Despite everyone’s best efforts today we called it a day after an hours play in progressively worse conditions. Well done to all the bowlers in tough circumstances and to all the boys for their enthusiasm in the rain. Sheen Park’s batsmen managed only 34 runs off the bat in 15 overs and required extras to bolster their total. Fielding and backing up was good and Edward had a pretty good debut behind the stumps!

See you Friday for better weather, training  and another BBQ hopefully!

Team sheet for next week’s cup match will follow in the week

U11s lose by 4 wickets against Wimbledon B

Wimbledon B U-11 beat Long Ditton U-11 by 4 wickets

Umpire: Mark Hays,  Scorer Greg Blows – Thanks

LDCC 92-6 Alex 22, Louie 12, Connor 11

Wimbledon 95-6 Idris 3-0-19-2, Rafe 3-0-15-1, Thomas 2-1-11-1,

MotM: Louie Wood – Batted carefully for 8 overs occasionally unleashing a cracking boundary for his first big score!

Champagne moment: Alex and Benedict accurate throw and run out x 2!

Another great and close match which we only lost in the last few overs. Long Ditton were put in to bat and responded by compiling a watchful 92-6. After losing 2 early wickets Connor and Louie put on a 40 partnership with some careful defence and  handsome stroke play by both boys. Alex then picked it up with a series of fine boundaries but fell trying to accelerate. Rafe added useful runs and Giac and Cameron both got to the wicket but we couldn’t quite make the psychological 100! Despite this Alex and Idris started with a combination of accurate and hostile bowling to restrict Wimbledon in the early overs. Idris broke through and at 41-4 in the 9th over we were looking good. The fielding was excellent and we created numerous run out chances and a couple of catching opportunities. However fine batting from Kingsley(33*ret) and Leo(16) for Wimbledon accelerated and despite late wickets for Rafe and Thomas Wimbledon overtook us with a couple of overs to spare.

Lessons Learnt: We still need to increase the scoring momentum by stroke play and strike rotation. I also will be rotating the order a little again next week to ensure everyone is getting a chance to bat. If we can make 110 or 120 we will give ourselves more chance of winning.

Next match is at home to Sheen Park at Tiffin Ground next Sunday so we’ll need some help to set up and organise. Also need to confirm Facilities will be open!!

Otherwise see you Friday for training with an U-15 hosted BBQ!

Cracking first league win for U11s

LDCC U-11 beat Spencer Girls U-12 by 43 runs

LDCC 115-4  Alex 32* ret, Thomas 14, Rafe 6

Spencer Girls 72-6 Rafe 3-1-5-3, Idris 3-0-8-2, Louie 1-0-4-1,

MotM : Rafe – Solid batting in great opening partnership  of 32 with Thomas. Excellent bowling spell with 3 wickets and no wides!

Champagne moment: Louie Wood’s first LDCC wicket-clean bowled!

Cracking first league win (4pts!) of the season with more encouraging improvement in batting, bowling accuracy and fielding. Great attacking knock from Tom was unluckily cut short by a just legal low bounce.  Alex and Benedict patiently compiled a partnership of 52  leaving Louie and Matt little time to make their mark at the crease. Idris and Sam opened up the bowling attack. Idris quickly struck with a couple of excellent wickets in a very good spell. Thomas and Matthew got more good bowling practice but it was Rafe who tore through the Spencer middle order with three excellent wickets. This effectively ended their challenge. This spell also enabled us to get our young guns William, Sam and Ethan into the action and all three acquitted themselves well. Last word however was had by Louie, who after excellent work and great encouragement in the field got his first wicket for the team!!

Lots of thanks this week-I hope I’ve caught them all. Andrew and Sasha for running the Friday BBQ . Katie for sending the salad and Lesley and Spencer for running the colts café on Sunday. Andrew for supporting Steve on training and all the U-10s who helped us field a team this weekend.

Next Match is away to Wimbledon B next Sunday.
